Our Nurse Team is headed up by Caroline Slim and supported by Jenny Lennard, Lucy McKenzie, Nikki Godwin, Olivia Clare, Carly Hemmings.
They hold daily routine surgeries for dressings, bandaging, pill checks, smears, coil checks, injections (childhood and routine travel) but in addition run numerous clinics. The clinics include asthma, diabetes, COPD, coronary heart disease, chronic kidney disease, stroke/TIA and mental health annual reviews.
Ciaran Purcell – Mental Health Nurse
My name is Ciaran and I joined the practice in 2019. I previously worked for AWP . I have surgeries both at the Old School Surgery and at UWE.
Stephanie Spratt – Sexual Health Nurse
My name is Steph. I joined the practice in 2020. I previously worked for Brook, providing sexual health care and contraception for young people. I currently work Thursdays at UWE and have an additional role at Marie Stopes International.
Anna MacCarthy – Sexual Health Nurse
My name is Anna and I joined Old School Surgery in January 2020. I previously worked at Brook young peoples service for over 10 years. I work at The Old School Surgery every Friday morning, offering all methods of contraception including the fitting and removal of implants.
Acute Care Practitioners
Claire Fry – Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner
My name is Claire. I joined the Surgery in 2019, prior to this I have previously worked in another Bristol GP practice and Urgent Care Centre as an Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner. My role at the Surgery is to provide on the day appointments for patients with urgent needs including minor illness. As a Nurse Practitioner I have undertaken additional training and in this role can carry out clinical assessment of the patient through to diagnosis and treatment and evaluation of care. I work closely with the Duty GPs working on the day.
Special Care of the Elderly Team
Christine Stevens, Rachel Spencer and Esther Thacker are our Nurse Practitioners, supported by the care of the elderly nurse Susan Freeman. They provide home visits to housebound and vulnerable patients and support the GP’s with the care of patients in the Nursing and Residential Homes.
Our Health Care Assistants
Mo Brown, Debra Yoxall Christine Stewart and Grace Dirks are the practice Health Care Assistants who offer daily sessions to take blood tests, perform ECGs, blood pressures, urine tests and also offer hypertension annual review clinics.
